Falling platelet count

Hello all,
I have today been to hospital for my 2nd bi-weekly blood count, since starting on sprycel. All appears ok, apart from my falling platelet count. My count was 207 on the day I started, then 186, 2 weeks ago. Then today was down to 79!
I have been told to come back in a week for another check, & not to worry unless the count drops below 50. If this happens I have been told that we will have to see about coming of sprycel untill my count rises.
This is the only problem that I have had since starting treatment, no other side effects yet.
Any advice is welcome
Bob

My platelet count has allways been low on Sprycel, dont worry to much about the 50 cut off,If your doing well in every other way you can drop lower,I have reached platlet counts of 39 with no problems (now on a steady 64).
But I am treated at Kings CML clinic, where doctors prescribe lots of Sprycel and can rely on the knowledge gained in real life rather than the basic guide in the drug notes

Hello Michael,
Thanks for your reply, I will see what friday brings & go from there.
I have spoken with Jerry Mayfield, who was in the initial trial for Sprycel, in the USA.
He says the same as you & not to worry to much, as hopefully things will settle down.

Hi Bob,

I'm on Dasatinib not Sprycel but within a month of starting my medication my platelet count was extremely up and down. It went from 3500 down to 32 within a few weeks! It has now reached a more stable level and things are fine - so I wouldn't worry - you will probably just be carefully monitored until levels have risen.

Hope this helps!
