Lottie Dothu

This is a message from Pat Elliot about the death of Lottie. I promised Barbara Meunier that I would post the news here as some of you knew Dottie and might not have heard this news. She had several other health issues in the past few years.

"It's a very sad day in the CML community. Lottie Duthu, a brave, kind and caring woman, has passed away. Diagnosed in 1996, Lottie reached out to, and impacted, hundreds of CML patients around the world through online connections, phone calls, face to face meetings, attending conferences and more. Nothing could keep her down or keep her from sharing words of encouragement and support with others. Family and friends in Louisiana will share information on services at a later time." Pat Elliot

'Lottie Duthu, married for more than 50 years to hear beloved Jimmy. Had tried all the Cml drugs, never achieved CCR but that never stopped her helping others. Was always looking for articles and sharing them with other patients. Kept in contact by email & phone with numerous Cml patients worldwide. Had been suffering from numerous health problems over these last few years , side effects from drugs mainly.'

Ted and I corresponded with Lottie by e-mail for the last ten years. She was a bright, inspirational woman who had many other health issues apart from her CML, but always had a story to tell....I remember her e-mailing us from her attic where she had taken refuge with her husband Jimmy (both in their eighties even then) whilst waiting for Hurricane Katrina to arrive and the waters to rise. She was typing reports as it was all happening....!
We'll miss her.
