Flu & Shingles Vaccine

Hello All
My father in law is a CLL patient & has received an email from CLL Support regarding both Flu & Shingles vaccines that I thought would be relevant to us. It states the following:
'We have been made aware that as of this week the NHS is advising the co-administration of shingles vaccine with the flu vaccine.
The shingles vaccine is a live vaccine & live vaccines are dangerous in immune-compromised patients'
I know that in the past I have been told by the hospital to make sure that the flu vaccine I have at work is not a live culture as this would be dangerous, & wanted everyone to be aware, & to ask first, as your GP or Nurse Practitioner may not be aware of this.
If anyone knows anything more about this please let me know.
Bob

Thanks Bob. There is an article in today's mail on Sunday. I have looked it up on the net as well and it is only available to those aged 70 and 79. Very specific.. Over the next few years they will immunise those between 70 and 79+.
I will check with the Hammersmith on the patient Carer day and report back.
About 5 years ago I had shingles post dx and had to be Hospitalised for 8 nights. No good. Regards

I emailed my consultant today and she has come back and said that as my counts are as good as they are and because I have had a very bad bout of shingles about 5 years ago there is no objection to me having the jab even though it is a live vaccine but I should speak to my GP anyway. But this info relates to me and probably not a generalisation
