Nilotinib and hair dye

Hi,

i was diagnosed 11months ago and have been on Nilotinib. I am having difficulty trying to find a hairdresser who will deal with my colour.

Some wont touch me at all, others want a letter from the consultant. Anyone else have this issue and how have you overcome it?

Many thanks

Toni

By not telling them, to be honest. In the same way I wouldn't tell the massage therapist if they asked me.

David.

Oh, thank you David. But I am petrified of the hairdressers as it is and I would be mortified if it all went horribly wrong and it was my fault for not telling them in the first place!

I’ve been on Nilotinib from September and had my hair dyed twice by my hairdresser of more than 10yrs.  Because I felt my scalp was a bit sensitive on the first trip he just used foils with no scalp contact (December) and I went with same regime in March.  Have any of the hairdressers not suggested a test patch as they normally would if you were a new customer or sign a disclaimer?  Hope you find one.  Debbie

Thank you Debbie. I think as soon as you say cancer treatment they all run scared. I’ve just found a hairdresser who has done a skin test and taken a hair swatch to test so just need to wait 48 hours now. She suggested highlights instead of full head for same reason but still wanted me to get a letter. My consultant is great so I’m sure it won’t be a problem.

Thank you for the confidence.
