Strange support.

Hi everyone

i am just wandering why during these very stressful times I’m reading, not for the first time Cml members being told were not at high or indeed any risk any more than the general public of catching corona virus, yet in the 5 years since my diagnosis I’ve been in hospital twice, and on one of the occasions within 1 hour in a all male ward, probably 6 more patients in it, i was taken out and put in my own room which I was put in on the second occasion, I was led to believe because of a compromised immune system it was safer, and now according to a lot of doctors, no you’re ok, have I been over cautious for the last 5 years and as it been a waste of time.

For the only thing I am sure is that our immune system is not compromised and that we are not in high risk...my doctor has told me twice!

Hi snowman,

in the last 4/5 weeks thanks to Cml Support members the positivity coming back in response has been uplifting, again many thanks.

Hi Peter

Me again. That will be because of the very same reason we have been put in the high risk group for COVID in the UK because we have Leukaemia not because we have CML. Luckily for us we have targeted therapy that attacks mostly or only the BCR-ABL protein. Good healthy cells are left alone thanks to our magic medication. And in turn our immune is normal or in some cases probably stronger than normal believe it or not.

I guess it takes time for the medical world to break stigma. Not sure that’s the right word, but I have confidence in what our CML specialists say.

You are right to exercise caution because of the mental aspects of having CML. I know any change or new twinge can cause a world of anxiety and pain.

Stay calm, stay safe and stay well.

Alex

Alex, it’s always a pleasure to hear from you, in these stressful times for everyone worldwide we all need good advice to cope with situations, you never let me down.

Cheers, Peter.
