WBC 15.5

Hi

so I have had cml for almost 11 years and always done well with a bcr abl of 0.00026 in August 2020

when I went to clinic the other day I had a bcr/abl test and a fbc

I asked how the fbc was and what was my white cell count so she said it’s 15.5 and neutrophils are 12

she wasn’t concerned but I can’t stop worrying about it all other counts normal

just seems a bit high I’m not Ill at all.

my normal wcc is normally 11.8

i have tried contacting the hosp but can’t seem to get past the receptionist to speak to anyone for last 2 days

what are ur thoughts

thanks

hannah

Hello Hannah, this is all very new to me.

However, if I was in your situation I would be on to my haematologist or his/her secretary right away. If you are in the UK, have you tried phoning the triage number?

David

I cannot get through to anybody very frustrating

Hi Hannah, his could easily be explained by you having a sub-clinical infection which your body is resolving without you feeling unwell. It needs checking out but I think not likely to be anything significant.   I hope that helps.

Thank you, the consultant wasn’t even concerned it was me who was

Hi Hannah,

Your specialist will be looking at your most recent PCR-bcr/abl  from August 2020 and those previous to that date  and these seem to  indicate that you are nearly undetectable with a log reduction between 4 and 5 and because you are asymptomatic with no adverse events to report you would seem to be in very safe territory.

Medics will look for trends, so a one off above  range of elevated WBC and neutrophils  (neutrophilia) will be noted but not acted upon at present ; probably as Alistair has said it is related to a possible bacterial infection, inflammation and even an event of physical and/or emotional stress.

If the scores for WBC and Neutrophils had been below range then you might be subject to the risk of not being able to fight off infections which would be more concerning.

If you are in UK I would suggest you talk with your GP and seek an opinion or if in another country seek a retest of your bloods that is if you are still really concerned.

With best wishes

John

Hi
