Appointments

Sorry to moan about the previously excellent care I, like most of us members of the “Cml club” from the nhs, but in the last 20 months l have had to organise my 12 week consultation on five of the six occasion, my current consultation, which I phoned 3 weeks ago to organise is now 15 weeks from my previous one in August. Today I spoke to my consultants secretary, who told me she’d ring me back within 15 minutes, 3 hours later I never received a call, I’ve 3 days of Nilotinib left, still have nothing but praise for the care I’ve received in the last 7 years, but something doesn’t seem to be right at the moment.

Hi. This is the right place to moan and i understand your frustration and the stress involved.  In my case it is the hospital dispensing the Nilotinib that i get stressed about.  I did get down to my last day of tablets earlier this year and thought i was going to have a gap.  My consultant prescribes it but it has to be approved by the oncology pharmacist before going to the hospital pharmacy who then have to order it.  Every time I have to phone and chase where it is in the system.  Last time there was a new oncology pharmacist and she seemed to get it sorted with just one call from me.  It can take up to 5 calls as time goes by.

It can be very stressful when you know how important it is but the hospital/consultant doesn't seem to have things in hand.  Hopefully for you it will be a one off and your will get your medication on time.  Can you contact the hospital direct to book an appointment or does it have to go via the consultants office?

Hi Christine

i must emphasise I’m not blaming any individual, but from once knowing your appointment within days of the last one you had, now it seems the appointment department who organise your next consultation are “run off their feet “ with masses of pressure caused by the backlog for other medical procedures requiring appointments, due to covid, hopefully, soon, normality will return.

Hi, this must be just your doctor .My Doc sends my appointment for phone consultation every 3 months first Wednesday of the month complete with my form for blood test to have a few days before my consultation  and the appointment for blood test too.My meds are delivered on the afternoon  of my consultation .Touch Wood I haven't had any problems at all.Maybe it's time for a change of an incompetent doctor.Regards ,Denise.

Hello Denise,

I truly believe my doctor doesn’t know the chaos what is going on from the moment are telephone consultation end’s, and I would never blame any individual, I just believe there’s to much going off that somethings are not being prioritised, ironically I’ve just had a “fitted in” telephone consultation today that wasn’t on the cards as late as Tuesday this week due to my calling departments on Monday.
