300mg of Gleevac

Hi
Is there anyone out there on 300mg of Gleevac, and if so, why not 400mg of Gleevac?

Today I have been told that I am PCR negative, which is great news, but that my wbc and platelets are very low. My onc is therefore stopping the Gleevac for a while so my blood can recover, then I will most likely be put on a lower dose of 300mg.

Has anyone else experienced this?

In anticipation.

Hi Vanessa,
I have a 13 year old lad with CML. He started on 400mg Glivec after diagnosis in the Summer (2006), but, like you, his wbc etc drifted down gradually. His consultant stopped Glivec for 3 weeks to allow time for the counts to recover, which they did. We were told that the drop was partly due to hydroxyurea still being in his system at that time, as he had only just stopped taking it. He restarted still on 300mg. The wbc and platelet count then started drifting down again. He has just had another week off Glivec, mainly because we were going on holiday and didnt want to risk him becoming neutropenic whilst we were away! He restarted on 200mg a week ago. We wait to see what effect this has on his counts, but the Hosp are confident that the disease is well under control. Its fantastic that you are PCR negative! We haven't had a test done since diagnosis, tho I think one is due this month. Hope this helps. Best wishes, Kestrel
