Can anybody let me know when there will be some information about the recent seminar held in August as I have been asked by several people if I knew what happened.
Many Thanks.
Steven Davies
Hi Steven,
Well as you will see from previous posts - we were there! There was a lot of interesting information as usual, but one thing that we were surprised at - in our "afternoon (surnames A - J) Q&A session" with Steve O'Brien etc, one chap asked a question about stopping Glivec in a controlled study. They did a "hands up" poll of who would be prepared to take part and about 25% of CML ers put their hands up! I don't know whether Steve O'Brien will take this any further.

There has been at least one study where those who had achieved molecular remission were taken off Glivec, and were followed up closely over several months. Some were still in remission some months later, but some relapsed and had to be restarted on Glivec, after which they returned to remission.
It would seem, unless there's very good reason to stop Glivec (side effects etc) that the drug is likely to be needed long term.
