Bone Marrow Transplant

Hi,

Not sure how many people will remember my previous posts (it was some time ago). My Dad was diagnosed June 05 after trying Glivec for about 6 months it was not having the desired response so he joined the trial for AMN107 which worked for a while but didn't have a cytogenic response. Therefore the next step was a BMT, my Dad had no related donor and at 54 was considered high risk so this was by no means guaranteed to be the happy ending we so hoped for. September 06 my Dad had the transplant at the Royal Free Hospital, London. After the usual ups and downs and some great care from the hospital staff, we were told on Monday the results from the latest test, he is now 100% donor and the leukaemia undetectable. After this site being such a great help and the responses i received before being instrumental in my Dad going to Hammersmith for the trial and then the continued encouragement/reassurance from reading others stories thought i would share the good news.
Claire.

G'day Claire,

Just wanted to say congrats to you and your family. The results sound great and after such a tough few months, it's very good to know that your dad is now 100% donor.

I agree also - this site is brilliant for helping all kinds of people to get through some pretty tough situations...

Take care! MJS

That must be such a relief for you all. I'm really grateful for you taking time to post as I'm 52 with no related donor, so I watch this space anxiously. Great news

I am contemplating the BMT at the RFH so very nice to hear good news.

Hi Claire
So happy to hear the good news about your Dad, this will be real encouragement for those contemplating going down this route. Transplant is not an easy option and the going is tough but you can come out the other side.
I am delighted for you and your family. You must all be feeling quite elated after all the scary bits.
Good luck to your Dad for continued good health now.
