Steven has kindly composed a few lines on the Karen Morris Memorial Trust. Please take a look at the amazing work they have done. Karen's mother Sylvia is an inspirational woman and I wish her every success with the Birmingham project and everything else she does.
----------
Wednesday 7th March saw the culmination of 10 years of hard work when the Karen Morris Memorial Trust officially opened Karen’s Home from Home (3 brand new flats) on the site of the Hammersmith Hospital for the dedicated use of leukaemia patients and carers who do not live locally to the Hospital.
Alan Banes a Trustee of KMMT, Charles Craddock, Professor of Haematology, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham - Patron KMMT and Jane Apperley, Professor of Haematology, Hammersmith Hospital, London, together with Sylvia Morris(Mother) and Debby Morris (Sister) all gave speeches prior to Sylvia officially opening the flats but cutting a ribbon.
The flats themselves comprise of a lounge/kitchen with a double sofa, with patio doors and a small balcony, a double bedroom, and bathroom. The furnishings are of a very high standard as seen in a 5 star hotel including flat screen TV and sound system. The flats are also are serviced daily with clean bed linen so as to provide a very clean surrounding for all those staying there including those who are neutropenic.
Sylvia and Debby together with all the Trustees including Matt Lucas of Little Britain fame are to be congratulated on their strength and determination to see this project through to completion and which is of course only the start of bigger and better things to come.
This is surely one of the best tributes that can be made to a young girl who died prior to Glivec and all the new medication and treatments that are now available worldwide.
Good Luck for the future!!.
