PCR dissapointment

Hi all, Hope everyone one is well,

My latest PCR has just come through and I am feeling like I have been kicked in the teeth. ) I have results of 0.63, then 0.21 then 0.05 , my latest one has just come back as 0.35, it has knocked me a bit, just hope it is not the start of an upward trend. the next 12 weeks before the next one is going to feel like a long time.

Craig

Feel gutted for you mate and sorry to have heard that.
Was really good of you to have emailed me with all that info so thank you.
Hope you can get over this and get a better result next time, also that time passes quickly for you.

Please try not to worry, my PCR once went up from 0.003 to 0.14 - a 5 fold increase, I was really worried, the next one was down to 0.003 again - this was over a year ago, I've now been PCR-U since July 2006. These bounces are quite common & I think they happen when a few quiescent cells decide to come into circulation. I know it's easier said than done, but don't worry - worrying won't make any difference (that's one thing I've realised since my dx in May 2004, I used to get worked up before every blood test, with time, my stress levels have dropped.
Hope this helps,
Barbara

Hi last time I went to see the consultant she told me that my PCR was a little up and advised me to go back in 8 weeks instead of 12 weeks to check my PCR sooner. Must admit it does make you worry but reading between the lines some peoples PCRs do bounce around so I'm trying not to worry either

Sorry that you are upset about your PCR results but they really can bobble around and that's just something we have to accept - PCR monitoring is not a perfect science. I was dx over 3 years ago, in CCR after 12 mths and on 400mg glivec throughout (higher dose not viable option because of low counts). In the last 12 mths my PCR has bobbled around 0.5 - sometimes up to 0.7 sometimes down as low as 0.2 - it did look as though it was creeping up at one stage but the latest one shows 0.02 without any change in dosage. So do not despair- consultants only acknowledge 10 fold increase in PCR as significant, but even then only if they get a succession of sig results. Hope this helps - there are many of us bobblers around....

My pcr bounced about quite a bit last year it bounced up from0.003 to 0.15 which frightened me and my family since then it has been at zero for the last 3 it has taken me almost 4 years to get to zero, tho I know its hard but try not to worry too much, I'm sure the pcr tests are made of rubber.
Take care
Yvonne

Thanks for all the positive responses, I think that after all my results after dx had been lowering and ' better than the last one ' this one just came as a bit of a blow as i was kinda hoping for another zero.

keep well everyone,

Craig
