nasty red rash predominently on forearms and lower legs

My husband was diagnosed with CML on 15th Feb 2007 having not recovered from a severe attack of "flu". He is on Glivec 400 mg a day taken at night and has a series of side effects. Extreme tiredness, stomach upset, sore bones, night sweats, swollen face and legs,no taste for food at breakfast and he realises that this is all part of taking glivec. However, he was prescribed anti depressants about 3 weeks ago as he was so emotional and finding things hard, this was a good move. However after a few days he developed a rash generally but particularly on his forearms and lower legs, red, blotchy and itchy. He came off the anti depressants, took anti histamines and used a cream prescribed by the doctor, and after 5 days started another anti. depressant but the rash is worse still. Does anyone have a similar experience to this, maybe its just glivec or the new pills might not interact well.

So glad to hear from anyone weho has had this experience.

Love to all with cml

Hi christine,im on anti depressants ,100mg of sertraline and ive had no problems .Whats your husband on? love kathy

Thanks Kathy, the first a.d. was dosulepine then prozac, which he is still taking, this is Friday I spoke to our gp practice but got snr. doctor in our practice who was useless, waiting for his retirement.
Our own doctor is the best but unavailable until Monday. However, Brian has a hospital
appt. on Tuesday and will explain to them. We go to Ayr Hospital with a wonderful set up
there - highly thought of.
Thank you for your response and will take note of sertraline.

christine.

Hi Christine and Brian,
Im sorry I dont have anything useful to say, but just letting you know Im thinking of you. You're having a really tough time at the mo - here's hoping things settle down better for you very soon. You're not on your own!

Hi Christine
Could the rash be Glivec related ? Some people do get quite a bad rash with Glivec which has to be treated with steroids and then it settles down. Haven't heard of rash with Prozac .... Hope you got an answer when Brian went for his appt. Let us know how you get on.
Best wishes
Elizabeth

I am new, and I hope this is going through.
I cannot say much about the rash, but its a good thing to get it checked out soon.
I am on Gleevec since 1998, and to this day I still have no appetite for breakfast. I am always fatigued and lots of other problems. I pray things balance out for your husband soon.
