echinacea

Hi all,

Echinacea is an herb native to prairie habitats in the United States. This herb is sometimes used as a natural antibiotic and immune system stimulator, helping to build resistance to colds, flu and infections. It is thought to increase the production of white blood cells, and improve the lymph glands. The tea from this herb has been used for infections and has been used in treating skin cancers and other cancers.

Do you know if gleevec interfere with this herb?

Carmen

Hello Carmen,
I post at this site mostly as it is UK based as am I.

Memorial Slone Kettering Cancer Center has a great website that you
can refer to. St. John's Wort is known to be contraindicated with
Glivec and patients have also been told to avoid Echinacea.

Kind Regards
Bil in the uK

Hi Bil,

that's great. Actually I found that both places (Uk and US) are really informative, specially for those of us that have recently enter on this CML's world
We got the diagnostic for CML of my husband about three weeks ago now, and since then, I started to look for places were we can get in contact with other patients, and share opinions, support and help. It really helps me.

Thank you for the update on echinacea. can you recomend us anything for the cold? He is asthmatic and usually he had problems with the weather changes.

kind regards,
Carmen

Anybody read anything about acai berries? I read an article about them in the weekend gloosy magazines as the next super food and was wondering if they were ok for people with CML?

My wife Val was dx in Jan 07 and was put on 400mg of Glivec/day after 10 days. The site has been a great source of both information and inspiration to us
