calcium levels

Hi,
I am logging on for the first time although I was DX back in 2002 and have been on glivec for 5 years now. It's been going very very well - all tests clear for some time.

But for a year or so my blood calcium levels have been getting low and my consultant says they are investigating this at Barts. I've been taking OTC Calcium and calcium/Glucosamine pills for some time which are keeping blood levels just about okay - I am very bad at noting down the specific details sorry.

The cramps have been a problem (especially if I drink too much) but taking the calucium and, even better, possibly, the calcium/Glucosine seem to have really made a good difference.

Has anyone else had the same problem and tried anything else (apart from the obvious at more cheese/milk products etc which is just not enough I feel).

Lovely to meet you all - I can't believe I've not logged on before.

Hi
Glad you found us and sorry that you had to. Calcium levels has been a problem for some patients. A good Calcium/Magnesium supplement helps and also helps with the cramps. I would say that Glucosamine would help too. My husband, who doesn't have CML, has achy joints and Glucosamine really works.
So glad that Glivec is working so well for you.
With very best wishes and keep posting
Elizabeth
