Life Mel Honey

Hi All
I have recently been told about a special honey called Life Mel Honey (www.lifemel.co.uk) which comes from Israel, it apparently has been proven to boost the immune system particularly following chemotherapy. Has anyone tried this? Or even heard about it? I think I may give it a whirl if no contra info comes back as the claims are quite impressive in increasing blood counts including neutrophil counts. Assuming I don't get any bad information back, I'll report back and let you all know how it affects my counts.
Take care

Hi Linda
I have heard of Manuka Honey but not of this. I have just read the website and note that there is the herb Echinacea in the honey. At the last conference in Germany in June a doctor who works with complimentary and alternative medicines advised that Echinacea interfered with the serum levels of Glivec - reducing the levels of Glivec in the blood, so I would be careful - I guess you could try it in small quantities and see - Gingko on the other hand is one of the herbs which increases the serum levels of Glivec.
Best wishes
Elizabeth

I was warned not to take Echinacea as it may cause a side effect, affecting the liver.. As does Glivec and Nilotinib may cause liver problem it is best to always talk with a doctor when you are thinking about any Herb meds... here is what one web site says..

Some herbalists say that if you use Echinacea for longer than 8 weeks at a time it may damage your liver or suppress your immune system. So they strongly recommend that you don’t take Echinacea if you are taking drugs known to affect your liver. If you are taking any other drugs, herbs, or supplements, it is important to check with your doctor before taking Echinacea.

I cannot find reference to that on the site if it is pasturised

I had read somewhere on seths 'surviving leukaemia blog (http://survivingleukemia.wordpress.com/neutropenic-diet/) that for a netropenic diet (following chemo) that raw and upasturised honey should be avoided

however I am no expert on this subject so do consult someone who would know suchas your doctor as Skip says...
