Celebrating my 50th.

Carol and I have just returned from 2 weeks in Rhodes and celebrated my 50th birthday.

On the day of my Dx (18th August 2004) I was told that my life expectancy was 3-4 years. What I was not told was that was without any treatment. 3 Days later and after being transferred to HH the picture and life looked suddenly better. Glivec is working fine for me and my PCR is 0.07.

Life at the moment is really good. A new career and many years of good living (I Hope).

Heres wishing everyone the same. Be positive

Regards

Happy Birthday, Steven! What a lovely positive post. Thank you.

Val had a very similar experience on diagnosis just 3 months before you, except she was told 2/3 years. With some helpful input from Sandy and Elizabeth, we too went to the Hammersmith. Jane Apperley, on hearing what we had been told, said she would hope for 10 years or more because of new tretment developments in the pipeline. Suddenly we were in a different ball game. Glivec is working well for Val too. One of the positive things for us has been to stop putting things off that we really wanted to do some time in the future - now we just get on and do them! It is not fear of the future any more but rather living and celebrating each and every day.

So we know how you feel and it is great, isn't it. I am so glad to hear life is good for you and long may it continue to be good.

There is so much to be positive about with CML treatment now. So a big thank you to Novartis, BMS and Dr Druker as well as all the CML hospitals and doctors and their expertise, Sandy and Elizabeth!

I echo what has been said above and wish you many many more happy years. Can't wait to celebrate the 75th !! Gives us some time to think where to go !!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVEN!

WE TOO WERE NOT GIVEN THE FULL FACTS AT DX AND THOUGHT GARY HAD ABOUT 4-5 YRS. TOMORROW WE'RE OFF TO MANCHESTER TO MEET GUY LUCAS AND PROBABLY GO ON NILOTANIB INSTEAD AS THE 600mg GLIVEC ARE NOT BRINGING GARYS PCR DOWN QUICKLY ENOUGH. THINK ABOUT YOU OFTEN AND ALTHOUGH WE'RE BACK HOME NOW, WE STILL HAVE NO INTERNET ACCESS EXCEPT WHEN I SEE MY PARENTS SO SORRY FOR THE SPORADIC AND ERRATIC POSTS. HOPE YOU ARE BOTH WELL, JUST RETURNED FORM 2 WKS IN FRANCE OURSELVES AND ARE NOW SUFFERING WITH THE HOLIDAY BLUES. TAKE CARE RACHEL XXX
