hi everyone, i hope you are all doing ok. can anyone help me? my husband has been on gleevac 4 a year he has just had a year anniversary bone marrow test and the results show that the philedelphia chromosome has gone, and that he is in molecular remission. he still has to take 4 gleevac tablets a day. he is treated at our local mc millan unit at milton keynes hospital. they also want his brother to go in so that they can test his bone marrow 4 a match? please what exactly does this all mean, i dont understand? is he cured as i thought only a bmt could do that. i would really appreciate somebody,s imput.thanks. belinda.
You are here
molecular remission
Hi Belinda,
No, the drugs for CML are not a cure, which is why you have to keep taking the drugs. Your husband has had a very good response to Gleevec and he is not likely to relapse with this response.
It is always a good idea to know if you have a sibling match for a BMT, just as an option if ever needed in the future.
Congrats to your husband...you can both go out and celebrate his good response to Gleevec.
