Does anyone go to the new oncology unit at st james leeds. I understand that all haematology services have gone over there now from the L G I. Also does anyone have any contact with the haematology nurse called ALISON CHATTEN, if so please could you have a word with her about some help with starting up the yorkshire region cml support group, which I have been trying to start up since the cml seminar held in Manchester. I sent a CD to DR G SMITH at LEEDS and spoke with ALISON myself who was supposed to be meeting up with the other haematology nurses in our region to get us more support, but nothing seems to get moving. I sent a letter to my haematology nurse last week at BRI asking her to contact ALISON to see if we could have a meeting room at the new unit, but as yet have heard nothing, so could anyone else who goes to leeds, that may be interested in a yorkshire region support group, please contact the haematology nurse for some help and advise. We have got funding and full backing from the consultants to set up and run a support group in this region. sue d

Hi Sue,
Sorry about the problems you are having setting up the support group. Could I suggest a temporary approach - that may put pressure on 'someone' is to have your first meeting in the clinic waiting area. Gather round the water fountain or the coffee machine! Pick a day and time, send out invites to patients you know, put up an eye catching poster in the reception area, notify the relevant nurses, doctors consultants etc. Explain that no other venue seems to be available so the initial meeting is to discover numbers and interest. You should generate a reaction - and possibly a suggested venue prior to the meeting. If not at least you will have started the group and gathered others to the cause.
Very good luck.
