breakthrough?

hello im tom i was diagnosed with cml last july.

i read this today.

LEUKAEMIA sufferers were given fresh hope yesterday with a major DNA breakthrough.

The cancer is caused by abnormal production of white blood cells and current treatment relies on killing them.

Now New York scientists have discovered a drug that reprogrammes the cells back into healthy ones.

Study leader Michael Cosgrove said: “Our discovery will bring new ways to treat leukaemia.”

i searched the net and found this

http://www.upi.com/Science_News/2008/10/29/Scientists_find_new_way_to_fi...

ive not found the article in the Journal of Biological Chemistry yet but the news looks promising.

Hi Tom,
I read the study and it looks promising. Well, so much is more promising with leukemia these days. Recently, my father attended a conference in Boston sponsored by the European Hematologic Society on CML where many of the scientists agreed that a "cure" is very possible within the next 10 years. Someday (soon I hope) scientists will be able to target and destroy the mutant gene that causes CML.

Good find! Thanks.
Regards,
Tracey
