Hi everyone,
I know this must be an old chestnut to many of you but I have just tried to get travel insurance and have just realised its not going to be that easy! I seem to be paying as much for the insurance as for the holiday. Do people take the risk of travelling with no insurance or are there cheaper companies out there?
Any advice would be gratefully received!!!
Karen

Travel Insurance
Hi Karen,
Travel insurance is a funny one, and I think it depends on what you want to be insured for. We recently did a long trip and made the decision not to take out insurance. This was based on a number of factors:
- we had enough cash in our account to cover emergencies
- our credit cards offered several emergency assistance options including medical flights back to the UK
- our contents insurance covered all our posessions and luggage abroad
- the quotes we were getting cost more than the holiday so we decided to risk it for a biscuit as they say
But I know other people have managed to get reasonable quotes so it's not impossible if you want the peace of mind.
Hi Karen
Try Age Concern :-) - they will cover anyone of any age and the quote I thought was reasonable. They asked lots of sensible questions about the drug I was taking, and whether I went for tests/hospital visits routinely.
Their policy is underwritten by Fortis, and from what others have written, most of the companies offering reasonably priced travel insurance seem to be linked with Fortis in some way.
Good luck - and enjoy your holiday!

i've used insure and go. We usually pay for annual travel insurance and they have been pretty good. The only minus is that they will not cover my cml but will cover everything else.
Hi,
We've used Post Office Insurance for travel within Europe for the last six years since Anne's been diagnosed, they do a telephone medical screening and will cover cml for extra premium.
Last year we went to Canada, and sought a quote from the Post Office and found it considerably higher than travelling to Europe.
Eventually we used Medici Travel - they will do an on-line screen for a whole rangte of medical conditions -including cml. They then quote two prices, one covering cml one without.
Telephone numbers are 0870 890 3649 or 0845 8800168
There was a link on the home page of this web site which gave a page of useful information regarding travel insurance.
Good Luck
