Postal Service

Has anybody been having problems with blood tests going 'off' in the post? Twice now my PCR tests has gone off in the post due to the fact that my hospital send all blood tests by first class Royal Mail which, whilst they are on strike, is not the most sensible option. I keep having to go back to have more tests done which means taking more time off work. I queried this with my consultant but the powers that be will not pay for a courier service for CML bloods to Kings!

Yes Karen, I am about to have to go back for the third time to have my pcr taken. This month I had a pcr taken and Nottingham did not attach the paperwork in time - for which they apologised. The second trip for a repeat pcr just resulted in it getting caught up in the postal strike. Now I have to go back a third time (a round journey in my car of 60 miles and believe it or not that can mean three hours driving because of the heavy traffic on my hospital route.) Nottingham have acquired a new second hand pcr machine recently but do not entirely trust it yet so still send to Hammersmith as well. I find it all inefficient and stressful, particularly as I have not had a pcr result since March 09. I can see me ending up going with my pcr samples to London by train. With best wishes, Pat.

Maybe we should suggest we have our appointments in London and they can pay the travel!

Oh that's awful. CML is bad enough without having to wait and worry about samples arriving in time. Luckily Ted's are still sent down to Hammersmith by courier, but in the early days, samples would go missing or get left out on benches over weekends and deteriorated etc and it was really frustrating until the courier system was up and running properly. Never realised they are sending them by post in some areas?
