Arthritis update

Hello all,

I put up a post in December about having arthritis as a 'side effect' of Glivec.

I have been so busy since that I didn't get a chance to thank Sandy and Richard for their replies.

Just thought I would update you on what happened. My consultant was quite suprised by the pain and symptoms so he suggested a test for inflammatory markers which were high, indicating inflammatory arthritis.  He suggested another break from the Glivec. He  felt that this was a blip and wouldn't happen again but I was dreading going back on it just before Christmas. Since I have gone back on it I have had absoultely no side effects and feel great. Lots more energy to run around with my 2 year old, PCR tests going well and no more dips in platelets like I had initially.

So I suppose my message to anyone suffering side effects and initial problems with drug treatment  is you may get ups and downs but don't be put off by this, things generally level out in the end and get better.

I find this a great Forum, a wonderful source of information and there are some very inspirational people on here.

Thanks

Kate

Dear Kate... thanks for updating on your outcome. It is really good to hear that your break from therapy somehow solved the arthritis symptoms. It should give people lots of hope that side effects can (and are often) overcome somehow.

We, and our clinicians, have to learn from each other - the internet forums are a wonderful source of support and informationfor us all. Good news is always welcome here. Thanks for your kind words about his forum.

Best... Sandy
