hydroxea

Hi All

Benn back to the centre today to have my bloods done, i start my Glevic tonight (not looking forward to it) My question is, i have been on the hydoxea tablets for a fortnight had my bloods done today and they have not changed in fact my platelets have gone up. Has anyone else experienced this and should i be worried.

Thanks

Ni

Hi Ni

i was in a similar situation as you regarding hydroxcarbramide.

my first two weeks showed little reaction.the main focus was on getting the WCC count down to acceptable levels before starting on Glivec My Hydroxea dosage was then increased and after a total of six weeks my blood level my WCC dropped to around 20, I was then started on Glivec and have been on this since may 15th 2009. In feb 2011 I reached the optimum perfomance of the drugs with my last BCR/ABL results coming in at 0.00 ph+ cells, it has taken 20 months to reach this stage. Your specialist team will be able to advise you as to what will happen and will co-ordinate the treatment accordingly. You need to trust the specialist and try not to worry about the CML.

Professor Clarke at liverpool is my specalist. He sums it up in a statement he made to me in January 2010 when he said you live your life let me worry about the CML

I hope this reassures you on your path of CML.remember try not to worry too much.

Take care and good luck.

Stuart

Hi Stuart

Thanks for the reply, yu have really put my mind at rest. I was panicked when i saw the results. I have started Glivec now. I saw Prof Clarke last week and he said the same phrase to me which was great. He is really good and put my mind at ease a fair bit. Thanks again for the reassurance.

Hope you continue to do well

hi Ni

yes I had a similar start post-diagnosis with rising WBC where they were adjusting the hydrae(sp?) dosage. i had several days of getting results before I even said 'so what's normal then?'...anyway I hope you are getting the information you need and gradually adjusting to all this. There is lots of info and support on this site.

Take care
