Possible eye problem with Nilotinib?

Hello again,
Have not been on here for a long while, but have just started into Nilotinib. After a few aches and pains which went pretty rapidly, I now seem to have developed a slightly blurred vision in one eye. This followed a minor eye bleed last week. The bleed was seen by the chaps at Hammersmith last week and very much dismissed, then thi has developed. My concern being that the same eye had a cataract op some 5 years ago. It has been fine since. I was on Dasatinib for the past 4years with no problems until catching a cold last Christmas which developd into a chest infection and the combination of the drug and the cold caused a massive plueral effusion, so had a couple of months off therapy.
Have tried al day to access further info on this, but all I seem to get are ringing tones, from unanswered telephones and unhelpful receptionists etc.
Any previous experiences would be very much appreciated.
As an aside, I have found Nilotinib a bit like Glivec, in that it seems to give me energy, well an awful lot more than Dasatinib and certainly not the depressions. Anyone else the same? or am I again an odd one out.
Have fun

hi keith
read with intrest your eye issue, have cml since sept 07 and take 800mg glivic, had most of the usuall side effects which have subsided over time, i was 6 months in when my eye problem started, i went completly blind in my right eye this was due to a large bleed in the eye, which was later treated via surgery and i now have about 80% vision in the eye, i was and am treated at liverpool royal a cml centre, i was informed the bleed is related to cml and the treatment, also a number of other people at the royal have had eye bleeds, the most concerning issue was being informed there was a small chance this could happen again, but that was over 3 years ago and all has been fine since. in the end we just have to get on with it!

regards tommy

Hi Keith

Although I'm not the one with CML (that's Ted) I've had cataracts and had the lens replaced - and now, 2 years later I've a membrane growing on the plastic lens giving me cloudy vision.....apparently this can happen due to various drugs or treatment, so I'm guessing this could be the culprit for you? Getting it lasered off in 2 weeks and it doesn't seem to be unusual.
Hope this helps

Spot on there Bee, took near on a week of arguing with receptionists, visiting Eye Casualty at Reading Hospital, where they did not have any doctors available, but eventually found a very nice young lady optician at Boots in Henley, who took an interest and concern, and hey presto an Optimat picture did show scar tissue over the transplanted lens. As you say lazer next, but knowing this part of Oxfordshire, this could be a very long wait. Still re-assured.
Hammersmith on Thursday, I will be the hairy grumpy one in the corner !!!
Have fun

Keith

The lasering off of the membrane was easy peasy today. No drops, no pain, no flashing lights and a near miraculous return to clear vision immediately! Something called a YAG laser was used for this. Brilliant.
