Webcast - Dr Michael Mauro

This is a webcast by Dr Michael Mauro, an eminent US haematologist. He covers a range of CML treatment questions, the quest for a cure, and treatments for those who do not respond to current TKIs.

At only 10 minutes long, it makes for very interesting listening. Also worth noting for the fight against NICE in terms of the availability of TKIs in the USA for both front-line therapy and responding to suboptimal response/resistance.

Thanks to Andrew Schorr, the founder of Patient Power, who made the video.

Hi Janet... thanks. I have uploaded this to the video page as I found a way of getting the embed code by linking to Patient Power via their YouTube link rather than through their webpage.

I agree that Dr. Mauro gives an excellent interview and much hope for the future. I like his views on drug combinations and also his clear reference to the European STIM trials and how such a large number of patients do not relapse even though they have detectable disease. Also his discription of the hedghog pathway and the ability of this being a way of targeting the stem cell. This is uplifting stuff.

Regarding convincing NICE with the examples of first line use in the US (and elsewhere in Eu) mmmm! if only they would engage on clinical reality rather than demanding double blind RCT's, trial that can never happen in rare disease populations like CML- we know it's all about price- but we will do our best at the appeal hearing to at least try to engage the panel (who are not the same as the appraisal committee who produced the negative FAD) that the assessment used the wrong model for CML...but don't hold your breath on this one.

Thanks again,

Sandy
