Flaky fingernails

I know it's a very minor irritation compared with all the other things we have to put up with, but does anyone else have a problem with their fingernails flaking and cracking?  It's almost as if I have two layers of finger nail, not well stuck together - not very easy to describe, but annoying.

Is it some deficiency in diet, old age coming on, Glivec, or what?  And has anyone any tips on how to deal with it? I do use a nail hardener varnish, but with limited success.

hi olivia - i had very thin finger nails whilst on gleevec, that regualrly split.  However since moving to dasatanib they have regained some of there former thickness

I put it down to the drugs, as they also effected my skin and eyes making them very sensitvce to light, easy to cut and bleed etc.

Again a lot better on dasatanib

I share your frustration. My fingernails are in a terrible state, flaky and break very easily. I just keep them short and paint them every few days to distract me from how awful they look! If I ever find a nail product that works I will let you know! ( it feels like a treat though to have bright nails as I have become addicted to the nails inc website! ) I am on nilotinib and had this problem plus very dry skin the whole time. Can't complain though, could be worse.
Do share if you find something that works please!

Thanks, both of you.  It helps, somehow, to know I'm not the only one who has this problem - not that it solves anything.  At least we women can use varnish without drawing odd looks!

Hi I have been on Glivec for over 2 years and have had flaky and splitting nails. I have found Pro-strong nail strengthener and moisturiser, and this has done the trick.  My nails are a lot better now and have grown again, although I do get the odd blip now and again. I get the prostrong from QVC online. Hope this helps anybody with the same problem.
