I have been taking Nilotinib for about a year now, when I first started taking the drug my life was very stressful and I started to get palpitations, I have reported these to my GP and also the the Dr's at the hospital. They have sent me for a few ecg's which have all come back normal but the palpitations were not happening at the time of the ecg. These palpitations only seemed to happen at night when I first laid in bed (the Dr thought it was a panic attack rather than any sort of change in my heart rhythm) however, these palpitations have now become a lot more frequent and they are a lot stronger and last longer. I am making an appointment with the GP for next week as I have read in the side effects that the drug can cause heart damage so have decided not the panic and ask if this happens or has happened to anyone else.
Thanks for your time.
You are here
Nilotinib and palpitations
Hi Sam,
it might be that the palpitations you describe are caused by other things...i.e low HGB can cause the same effect- especially on lying down in bed. ... do you also have breathlessness? Low thyroid is another possibility, as is too much coffee or not eating/drinking enough to keep your blood sugar at the correct level.
I am sure that stress plays a big part too... hopefully you will be reassured when you see your GP. Hear damaged caused by any of the TKIs is very rare.
Best wishes,
Sandy
