Hi, I have been having severe pain in my ribs for many months and have tried numerous pain killers/anti inflammatory medication. Following a bone scan, I have been told I have arthritis in my ribs and been advised to have cortisone injections. I am somewhat worried to have these - has anybody else had them? My bcr/abl has been undetectable for sometime but I am concerned about the effect of the injections. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks. Johannah

Cortisone Injections
Hi Johannah.
With refererence to your concerns.
I have bad arthitis and cml.
I have had numerous steroid injections and have had no implications regarding the cml.
To put it in perspective i have had 17 injections in my hands, had several others put in to my backside.
I also was prescribed prednisolone steroid tablets.
For the arthitis i now take upto 150 mg of diclofenac each day just to function and now also take codine to help manage the pain.
I have just changed my rehumatologist and hopefully will be having infliximatab to help control the arthitis.
Both my oncologist and hematologist are happy for this to happen and do not think it will affect the cml.
I hope this information help to reassure you.
Ps with arthitis have a look at your diet and see if you are eating anything that may be triggering the pain.
Ie foods out of the night shade group (potatoes! Tomatoes and eggplant)
Take care and good luck
Stuart
