Moving from England to Scotland

Hi guys

I'm moving from Warwickshire to Edinburgh shortly and was wondering if i should encounter any problems with obtaining my glivec in terms of funding?

Also, where and who would i be referred to at the Western General in Edinburgh?

Thanks

Gary

Gary,

There should be no problem in terms of funding. I (a Brit) moved from Japan to Scotland with no issue in terms of getting Glivec. I was even able to get a month's supply via the local GP while waiting for my hospital appointment.

Sorry, I am not in Edinburgh, so not sure which hospital will be your referral.

Bill

Hi

I am treated by Dr Maung at the Western General. He has general clinics on a Thursday, but if you are on a clinical trial (as I am), the day is Tuesday. There shouldn't be any problems at all with funding of Glivec.
Good luck with your move, and welcome to Edinburgh - it's a great place to live!

If you want to get in touch for more details, please ask Sandy for my email address.

I too see Dr Maung every 6 months or so at a Thursday clinic - the staff are great and the set-up is very efficient in my experience. No concerns at all about funding and in fact they are happy to give me 6mths supply of glivec at a time - I have been on an unchanged dose of 400mg for 10 years now so they are happy to see me infrequently which suits me too. They check bloods etc at the clinic, you wait to see Dr Maung and then you wait for maybe 15mins and a pharmacist comes out to the waiting area with the Glivec supplies.
I imagine you go through your new GP for a referral. In Scotland Glasgow is the strongest centre for CML so if you were an unusual case Edinburgh might even refer you on to Glasgow but I have been really happy with treatment in Edinburgh and it is all centralised at the Western General.
Good luck with the move!

Thanks for all your kind help guys, i'll ask my GP to refer me here then. Maybe bump into you guys at the clinic one day then!
