Hi Maria,
I use a topical magnesium oil/cream based product because I have read it is harder to get enough magnesium through the digestive tract.
As for whether this mineral is contra-indicated with nilotinib (if it is taken by mouth) I am not entirely sure. I have not seen it on any list of contra-indicated drugs, but as with most vitamin/mineral supplements I would think it should be taken with food.
This would mean Robert would take it away from nilotinib so it would not interfere with his absorption of the drug.
Magnesium supplementation can cause a diarrhoea in some people- I think this is dose dependent.
Topical based creams or oil (or even bath flakes) do not have this effect but are very effective way (over some weeks/months) of raising levels to normal/optimal. You can purchase any of these online.
Hope this is of some help,
Sandy
Hi, I am very interested in this and have been reading about the benefits of Magnesium. I am on 800 mg Nilotinib too, what would be the suggested amount per day and in your opinion which would you recommend please? Julie
Hi Julie,
You could try this link to a video which has a lot of information

I personally use Ancient Minerals cream - about 1 teaspoon twice a day. But when I get aches and pains I up the dose. I also sometimes combine the cream with the oil as this stops the stinging effect of the oil.
I am planning to buy some bath flakes too as I have read that a bath soak is a great way to absorb magnesium. I think it really is an individual thing- how much etc. and you have to work it out be trial and error. but the nutritional magnesium association is a good resource to start with.

Thanks Sandy
I have managed to get the consultants email so will drop him a line. I wanted Robbie to start using the magnesium as you do. He was so sore over the weekend the pain seems to be growing in strength since it started in 2003, hopefully the change in tablet from imatinib to nilotinib will make a difference.
Thanks for advice
Maria
