Well, i don't know why, but i developed trisomy in chromosome 8 in 10% of my PH negative cells (normal cells). I read some studies about chromosome anomalies in PH negative clones and i decided to post here a summary just explain the situation to others with this problem.
chromosome anomalies in PH negative clones are rare. occurs in 5-15% of patients and the scientists don't really know why this happen (some think there's a link with cytopenias). the significance of these chromosome anomalies in PH negative clones is unclear. The most common are trisomy 8, -Y and der 7. Some of these abnormalities may persist over time in small percentage but in most of the patients it will be transient and disappear over time.
In rare cases (less than 5%) the clone is malignant and may occur progression to MDS o AML (specially with der 7 - BUT, REMEMBER: rare cases). The prognosis for people with theses clones in PH - is good too. it depends on patient response to therapy (like any other cml patient). There's no change in therapy if there's a ph- abnormal clone but no signs of dysplasia. The reason it is a warning is because these rare cases that went to MDS and AML, so even if the vast majority these patients will do great, doctors want to make sure that nothing more will happen.
p.s.: sorry for the english :)
