Journalist and blogger Erin Zammett Ruddy wasn’t supposed to be a mother. Diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in 2001, she attributed a quick remission to a medication that says right on the bottle: Do not get pregnant while taking this drug. But she did, stopping her lifesaving medication (Gleevec) once she got pregnant and enduring nine long months of what-ifs (three times!). She took a big risk, but it paid off.
