Closer to a Cure?

Categories:

Just a heads up on the article I have posted .... see yellow feature box on this or the Home page. Some of you may be aware that Prof. Holyoake's team in Glasgow have been working for many years on finding ways to target the leukaemic stem cells (LSCs) that seem to escape the effects of TKIs at least in the vast majority of CML patients. It seems that her research ( and similar research in the US) is getting closer to finding the target protein/s that keep LSCs immune from the effects of current TKI therapies.

Another team in the US is working on a similar way of targeting LSCs. This is exciting stuff as drugs that target the proteins the researchers have identified as the being involved are already being used to treat other cancers. Read more detail about this exciting breakthrough by clicking on the yellow feature box above.

Prof. Holyoake will be talking about PCR testing at this years Patient Day in Manchester, so maybe this is a good opportunity to ask her to expand on how near this work is to going in to human clinical trials.
