Diagnosed with CML

Hello, spent seven days in Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo New York. Went through the bone marrow biopsy and was told I have CML. Started me on sprycel 100 mg. I have one question and that is my sense of taste and smell are completely gone and I'm wondering if this is a side effect of the medication? I should have asked this when I went in for my blood test this morning but I forgot. I can't find anything listed that says that this is a side effect of this medication

Take care. Jerry.

Hi Jerry,

I think there could be a few factors at play here. A CML diagnosis is a big thing to take in, and often people find that they least their appetite and just feel off their for for a while. I know I did.

Others find dasatinib can give things a bitter or metallic taste.

Here's some further info. I can't find the full article, but at least the abstract gives some information.

Hi David, thanks for the article apparently they don't really no what's causing smell and taste issues yet. This started 3 days after I started taking the sprycel. When I get up in the morning I check with a bottle of Vicks VapoRub and take a big whiff and I cannot smell a darn thing and it kind of sucks that I can't taste anything. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing and it will come back. if not it's not going to be enjoyable having a male.

Take care. JERRY

Just wanted to say good luck! I also am being treated for CML with Roswell though I am on gleevec and have not had any issues with my taste and smell. Hopefully they will come back soon!

Hi, I will mention this drug to my oncologist and see if this maybe another alternative if in fact the sprycel is the culprit.

Take care. Jerry
