Gleevec 11+years knee pain

Categories:

I have been on Gleevec since February 08. I started 400 mg, 200 mg. I am currently on 100 mg Teva generic since early 2017. Over the past few months my knees have gotten worse. I'm 48 now very active. I wonder permanent damage?

My knees on Imatininb were very debilitating at times due to the pain!  Only thing I found that helped to relieve it was additional vitamin D, Glucosamine with condroitin and Curcumin.  It never stopped it but did make it more manageable.

Don’t take this the wrong way ... but at 48 you’re starting to get to the age when the doctor might mention the dreaded phrase “wear and tear”. If you’re very active, for example a lot of running, that can be very hard on your joints.

One of my friends at work who could run a marathon in under 2:30 has found time has caught up and his knees are in bits. And he’s under 40.

That said, don’t rule the TKI out. Do you do any activity that is hard on your joints? If so, maybe give that a rest for a bit and see if it makes a difference. If it doesn’t, it’s something medical to explore perhaps?

David.

Thanks for reply, I walk a lot at work. It seemed strange that just last few months when I rise up from sitting great pain in the knees. If I drive more than 20 minutes hurts. I played basketball a lot back in the day, spent around 8 years working in sales in termite business. I crawled under many houses. There is a lot of wear and tear. Sometimes hard to tell what's natural or CML/TKI related.

Hi,
It may be due to tight hamstring .Do some strech and yoga.i'm sure ur knee feel happy after 2 or 3 session.if it help plz update.
