Trying Sprycel at 20mg

Categories:

I reduced my Sprycel dose to 20 mg a week ago.  Actually 25 the first few days as I was splitting 50 mg pills till the new prescription arrived.  It really feels like this is going to work for me as far as side effects.  I woke up happy the first morning.  I'd been attributing my depression to my low thyroid and frustration with the persistent side effects.  But then I went off Sprycel for a few days when I was having chest pain and some strange heart beats and I was immediately happy again.  I repeated this a few weeks later and got the same results.  Of all my side effects I was most worried that I'd not have that return to happiness with the reduced dose, but there it was.

I got a baseline PCR/ABL before the reduction:  RESULT:  BCR-ABL1 (p210): 0.0243% IS (MR 3.61)  Next test late April.  Let's hope this dose works to keep the CML in remission as do not want to give it up.

Maria

I have a suspicion - more a hope really - that it works spectacularly well for you!

Make sure your vitamin D level is up (helps with mood/depression), get some iodine (kelp?) and drink wine. Wine makes me happy.

Happy you are happy, Maria!  I know EXACTLY what you're talking about.  I remember on Gleevec, reducing a couple of times to 300 and 200, the difference in mood (not really the right word exactly, but you know what I mean) was spectacular.  Alas, that was long ago and they didn't do anything under 400 for the long haul, but I switched to Sprycel and the effect was immediate, even at 100 and then 70.  But best of all at 20!

A year follow up to this.  My first PCR test after the dose reduction went up, but then it went down a bit, then a bit more, and now a year later I've gotten my best results to date.

Maria thank you for sharing!

so, let me understand, your BCR is 0.0274, and you changed from 50 mmg to 25 mmg and now to 20 mmg?

I wish to try that too!

in prospective my BCR IS 0.070 and im taking 80 mmg! Which is causing many side effects including lower platelets ( 120 avg ) and the fatigue that we all experienced with high dosage of Sprycel... pls keep us posted, PS my doctor want to switch to 100 mmg but because my platelets she is hesitant...

Thank you!

My BCR-ABL was 0.0243 when I dropped to 20mg.  I only took 25mg for a few days, splitting 50mg pills in half, until my 20mg pills arrived.  My numbers went up a bit, but then began dropping again.  Now I'm 0.0177, the lowest result I've had yet.
