Intermittent Fasting and acidity

Categories:

Hi Scuba

I have read many of your posts on intermittent fasting and its benefits.

I read an article which states- one of the side effect of IF is increase in stomach acid causing acid reflux and indigestion.

How are you managing acidity when on intermittent prolonged fasting?

Kindly share your experience!

I have had zero acid reflux during fasting. I do get the "rumbles" as our bodies are trained to expect food at certain times of the day and begin secreting digestive enzymes in anticipation - especially if the smell of food is nearby. When that time window is missed, the digestive system normally would reabsorb these fluids. Reflux can only occur if there is a weakening in the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). As long as the LES is healthy and closes properly you should not experience any reflux whether eating or not.
