Hi All,
I have been looking at the advice leaflet sent out from Department of Health and Social Care with the first batch of Vitamin D (120 tabs at 400 iu each) to vulnerable patients. It says that the recommended daily dose of 400 international units of Vitamin D as a supplement is not to be exceeded. However in the next paragraph it says that taking up to 4000 iu s daily is still regarded as safe as long as this is not for a very long period of time.
In general it seems that government has been not totally committed and rather ambivalent about the value of Vitamin D.Today there was a question asked in Parliament by MP David Davis -"will the government reconsider their position over the efficacy of Vitamin D in reducing Covid death rates" He cited work undertaken in the Spanish region of Andulucia where Covid death rates were reduced after a Vitamin D scheme to supplement care home residents and some GP patients.
I found Sandy's very recent posting on Vitamin D, and the excellent leaflet attached thereto, was evidence enough of the value of this supplement;in my opinion there are not so many foods that are direct sources of this vitamin (wild fish, mushrooms and a few others are quite high). In addition our discussions here on Forum have been very useful on this topic. As I was found to be Vitamin D deficient last year I will continue with 4000 iu s per day especially in winter as advised by my specialist.
Best wishes
John
