Swere Puffiness around eyes and face - Dasatinib 100mg

Categories:

Hi All,

My wife got her BCR-ABL repeated after 3 months post detection and the ratio from 49% has come down to .568 on Dasatinib 100mg/day.

While the headaches, pimples to a great extent have reduced, there is increase in puffiness in eyes and face from last few days. Is this normal?

Please advise.

Thanks

Great news on the fast response!

Yes it is normal. Mine come and go for no apparent reason. Too much water or not enough who knows. But it is common so nothing to worry about. It’s nothing more than a very annoying appearance side effect of all TKI.

Thanks Alex for responding.

The puffiness is more in the morning and comes down a bit by the evening. Not sure how and why.

Thanks

No problem yes same for me. I had one eyelid recently very swollen below the eye. It persisted for 4 weeks and then went. I am suffering from bad hayfever this year for some reason and they’re both very swollen at present. It sucks but I try not to get annoyed it’ll pass after a while.

It is very normal with tkis  to have what is called peri-orbital odema or swelling of the tissues around the eyes.In addition some have irritated eyelids or blepharitis. You could try a warm compress or otherwise a used tea bag still warm .An eye wash that is based on plant statins may be useful as well.

Some patients experience conjunctivitis and eye bleeds but in my experience these conditions are eventually self limiting and need no action and will go away.Your specialist will grade side effects on a scale 1 to 4 and anything of grade 1  or 2 will be ignored and you will have to tolerate it.Grade 4 side effects might be somewhat uncomfortable and might need treatment or other actions such as ceasing medication for a while.

Today my eye tissues feel very swollen and I look as if I have not had any sleep for a week and the recent eye bleed to the side of my right eye is fading a little-but the tki is working.!

Regards

John
