Glivec!!!

Hi All

Just thought i'd let you know that since my increase in Glivec to 800mgs per day i've been doing ok. I'm having a wee bit of bother with fluid though. Its worse in the mornings , my eyes look like i've been crying half the night , my face is puffy and tight and so are my hands and ankles.

Is there any cause for concern. Should i phone the hospital. Is there something i can take????? Question after question. Typical me. I did put a post on before to tell you all whats happening regarding my cml but i think theres been a few technical hitches with this site.

Any advice would be good. Thanks.

Elaine Hardie

hi elaine, sorry about the tech. hitches with this forum. we get his a lot with spam and it is almost a full time job trying to delete it. it was when david was doing this that he hit the wrong key and deleted all the published posts instead........ hopefull when our technical wizard returns from touring with his band all will be fixed. fingers crossed that he can do this.

meanwhile, hopefully people will repost their responses to the topic headings etc.

i am afraid that the side effect you are experiencing is very common and seems to get worse with changes in dose. at least until you body gets used to the new dose. i found that drinking lots and lots of water helped with this side effect, i suppose by stimulating the kidneys to work harder and get rid of the extra water. but it does seem that it is one of the effects that we have to learn to live with. if you find that it gets worse as time goes on you should discuss options with your doctor. but even the new drugs like dasatinib and tasigna have similar side effects as they are inhibiting the same pathways that glivec inhibits.
hope it gets better as time goes on,
best wishes,
sandy C ;o)

I was precribed frusemide by Dr Marin last week for this problem with a potassium supplement. Mr eyes look slightly better and I lost 5 lbs over 3 days, but my mouth feels like the bottom of a budgie's cage!!!

Thanks Sandy and Des

I'll persevere a wee bit longer. I do drink lots of water. Maybe not enough.

Thankyou

Elaine

Hi
Thid certainly can be a problem, saggy eyes etc, but my personal brutal way is to start the day with two mugs of freshly ground black coffee. Has the effect of waking you up before you start runing to and fro the loo.

Keep smiling
