PCR result & How did you get CML

Hi all

Dx June this year, just had first pcr result back at 1%. Not sure what this mean but I guess I have a way to go yet.

With reference to the topic posted by Coyney last week about how we have contracted CML, does any one think it would be helpfull if we did a survery covering past history of events (anonimous if you like). It could cover all sorts of things such as mother during pregnancy. I know mine had very bad flue which has now been linked to leaukaemia. Exposure to toxins, viral (had loads of those), nuclear midicine (and loads of those too), where you live, other medicines or supliments you may have take, type of job, etc, etc, etc,. I know it would take a while to compile such a survay as it would have to cover such a wide range of things. But if a pattern appears in our past experiances it could be of use to the drug manufacturers or help prevent in future. Do you think its worth a try. Let me know what you think.

Hi Apryl, I've tried so many times to figure out what's caused my CML. I even asked my doctor if drinking a lot of Coke could cause it cos it has BENZINE in it. I think he laughed at me. Yes, i would be interested in a collective survey.

Hi Suzanne,

When I was first diagnosed I was sent a letter asking me to get involved in a survey which involved someone coming around my house from Kings college to ask questions about my lifestyle etc. But I didn't participate as I had only been diagnosed a month and was obviously still coming to terms with things. So there are surveys like that around, I could have a chat in January when I'm at Kings and get you some info on it if you like.

Take care,
Martyn

I'm sure I haven't been the victim of an alien abduction so I would like to know where my CML came from :-)

I was very stressed prior to diagnosis, I was suffering from stress related cluster headaches and I was also put on mood stabilisers.

Count me in!

Good luck on Wednesday. I think I was fortunate in that my cml was cought quite early before it had time to rampage out of conrol. Keep my fingers crossed for you.

I know how I got cml throught the army in the 1960s, We where chosen while on exersize in germany when in the middle of the night a land rover appeared the two men asked to see the o.c.to see if they could carry out some trials, which where to put radioactive isatops on all the tanks to test the penatration of radiation through the tanks,of course he said yes, So for one hour these isatops sat all round us on the tank, the men that where doing this are probebly no longer with use as all the protection they had was boiler suits and large rubber gloves, they also said that they where from porton down. My first attemt at getting this sorted was when I went for a blood test in 1984 I was then told there was some thing there but it was not bad enough to do any thing about. 2001 had to have a routine blood test as going in for day surgery urgent phone call 5.00pm please could you come in to see the hymotologyst 9.00am in the morning.Dr said come in sit down I have some good news and some bad news the bad news is you have CML the good new is we my be able to cure it.since then I have been trying with out success to get a pension from the army,I have since found out that every one else who where there when these tests were carried out have all died of verious cancer retated forms. I am the last one left.

Chris47, your story has left me speechless.

your story is the first that i have ever read that explains with absolute certainty why you developed CML..... you are 'lucky' that your cancer developed relatively slowly to allow access to glivec, but to live for such a long time with the knowledge that 'you had something but not bad enough to do anything about' must have been very hard.
if i were you i would be feeling very angry but given what happened to the other men you were with, i would also be feeling pretty fortunate!
i don't suppose that you will ever be successful in getting a pension from the army given that they are a resource for any govmt. administration to access live bodies for whatever reason they wish.
sandy C ;o)

please could you tell me why my story has left you speechless.do you know of some other incedents like this.yours chris.
