Bruising

Hi Everyone,

I have had leukaemia for 2 1/2 year and been on glivec for the same amount of time.My pcr is 0.003 and the last time i had a full blood count was about 7 weeks ago and it was normal.

On saturday morning i had a huge bruise come up on my leg (covering about 1/3 the back of my thigh)as if i had injured myself but i had not. I feel ok in myself just quite tired.

Was just wondering if i should just get it checked out by my GP or if i should speak to my heamatologist.

Ruth

Hi Ruth,
The sooner you see anyone about something like that the better.
Start with your GP ASAP and try your haematologist as well.
Theres nothing like the "belt & braces" approach, and hopefully
you'll get a sensible explanation from one of them.

The only similar thing I have experience with was last year when I had my flu jab. My whole left shoulder went almost black with bruising. Quite a shock when I first saw it but a relief when I realised it was just an adverse reaction to the flu jab. This year it was fine.

Hope its nothing too serious. Take care.

Richard

Rob had a bruise similar to you describe just prior to diagnosis 18 months ago it covered the whole of the back of his right thigh and was dark purple. It had a hard lump about the size of a walnut in the centre. His consultant examined it on dignosis but was at a loss to say what caused it. It disappeared after about 3 weeks on glivec and we still have no idea what it was. Guess we should be grateful for it as this was the reason He eventually went to GP after being unwell for a while.
Robs 18 month pcr just come back at 3.7, he's been on 600mg since 14 months and at last it is starting to drop more quickly. Hope you find the answer you need Ruth.
