25% reduction Xmas present

Hi everyone,
Lots of great stuff about good test results being shared - so heartening to read! Our 13 yr old had bone marrow aspirate (at about 4 months after diagnosis) and we were just told there has been a 25% reduction. Seeing consultant after New year for more info, but I'm guessing this would have been a test on about 20 cells as per Anjana's explanation. We were not told what the percentage of affected cells was at diagnosis. We have also just found out that no siblings are suitable for donor and also there is no complete match on the international register. 2 partial matches are being called in for tissue typing. I'm thinking this means that he will be on Glivec for the foreseeable future and looking at the experiences of everyone who uses this site, that could be a good thing - he seems to have no real side effects at all ( except stomach cramps which are treated with an antacid successfully).

Is a 25% reduction good - how good? Its often difficult to relate what I read here to the things that are said at Hospital and this is a slow road to travel!

very best wishes to all for Christmas and 2007!

Any idea why Anjana has stopped posting ?
Happy Christmas Everyone

hi kestral......... glad to hear about the 25% drop in ph+ cells. this is good news as it was within the first 3/4 months after diagnosis so it is very likely that he will respond well to glivec as the months go on.

just a word of warning about taking antacids... please make sure that any medication like this is taken at least 2 hrs after glivec as it can affect absorbsion of the drug. maybe more fluid (pref water or fresh juice) and food when taking glivec would help with this side effect.

best wishes for xmas and the coming year.
