Dry, Cracked Nostrils

Hi All

Anybody else out there with dry, cracked nostrils? Ted has been suffering for months now with what we thought was remnants of a winter cold, but it does seem to have been going on a bit. Heard not to use mineral oils to soften, but to use water-based cream instead, but there's no real improvement. It's a bit like "fragile skin" up inside the nose.

Bee

Hi Bee,
I'm not the CMLer in our family, but the carer, but I have had something similar which was very uncomfortable and went on for ages. Doc prescribed me Naseptin, which is a waterbased cream I believe and I did find it very useful. I've had the problem several times over the years and wonder if it is someting to do with the dry air associated with central heating? The lad I care for has had it too, quite recently. Has Ted asked his Doc about it? Hope you get it sorted soon.
Best wishes, kestrel

Hello Bee

This seems to be a problem for quite a few CMLers. Some of us compared noses at the Manchester seminar !

I also get very dry and cracked lips that split and bleed. So far the best thing I have found is a calendula cream from Helios.

Hope this helps Ted.

pennie

Hi
Had this but only on fingers, just arrived on it's own. Tried hand cream and the like but no good at all. Cured it though, changed toilet soap and shower gel. Moved away from the modern fangled soaps etc and went back to good old fashioned ones, perhaps not the same perfume, but better on dry skin which has gone and stayed gone. I won't print the name of soap as maybe will transgress the ethics of this great site, but if anyone is interested, give me a call and will discuss further.
Have fun and keep smiling

Hi All

Thanks for your replies. Ted made an appt and saw his GP. He said it was very infected up inside the nostrils and prescibed Naseptin as Kestrel has used. Back in two weeks if no better.
Hi also Rio, glad to see you posting on the site, we'll try the cocoa butter for the dry skin as well.

Bee

ATB Rio

Hi Rio,
Ted got diagnosed with cml nearly 6 years ago. We were on holiday on a motorbike in Spain when we found out. He had to wait a little while before he could go onto Glivec, but it's working well now and he rarely feels ill. The dry, cracked nose already seems to be improving with the Naseptin.
Keep Smiling
Bee and Ted
