fluid retention

Hi to all, I've been on gleevic for about 3 years and have always had a little fluid retention which I have managed to keep controlled by drinking plenty of water 8 glasses infact. I have twice taken water tablets precribed by my GP for a short while to deal with this problem, and not suffered too much. The thing is I am suffering with terrible fluid retention at present, ankles are the worst and wondered if any else has bad problems and what medication is the best to help. I accually feel really rough when I take the water tablets don't like being on them. I need advise quick as I'm going to Camberley Surrey next weekend to my sons wedding and need some relieve please advise thanks sue d

My wife has this problem. The Consultant prescribed Fusamide, which she takes occasionally when the fluid retention is bad. It is very effective but there is a need to be near a toilet for several hours after taking the pill! Apart from that, it doesn't seem to have any side effects. It certainly wouldn't be good to take one on the morning of a wedding day.

Have a great time at the wedding.

Try Pycnogenol - you can get it from Holland & Barratt. It's quite expensive. Although my mum is the CMLer I regularly visit this site. But I did recently suffer badly with fluid retention and my GP told me that taking diuretics sometimes eventually makes the problem worse! I found Pycnogenol by chance and I take 2 x 60mg per day. I no longer have a problem!

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Hope the above suggestions help Sue. Hope you have an absolutely wonderful day and that the sun shines for you all next weekend.
Much love

Hello Sue,
I have been on Gleevec 400mg per day for nearly 4 years now.
As a precaution against fluid retension my Clonical Haematologist put me on 40mg per day.
I still have swelling on my eyelids, but suffer no other effects from Puresis.
I am not sure what the original name was as this is a generic.
The diuretic must be mild as the reaction only lasts about an hour or so.
