low platelet counts

I wanted to know if anyone is having or has had a problem with low platelet count. Mine is dropping steadily, but my Oncologist has not said anything yet.

My recent PCR is a log 5
I do not want to stop my Gleevec even temporarily. Would they possibly just give me platelets to bring me back up. They are at 118 right now.

I have been anemic for almost my whole duration of taking Gleevec, which is 7 years.

Thank You

Hi Suzzie
You are one of the long standing Glivec patients. I am not too sure when you say your PCR is at log 5 what you mean. Is it 5.0 or 0.5 - hope it is the latter. Have you had a 5 log reduction ?
Re platelets 118 is fine, when I was on Glivec my platelets were around 20 for most of the time. They don't transfuse until your platelets go below 12, well in the UK that is. You don't have to worry about platelets right now. As for HB Glivec does tend to affect this and again as long as you don't drop below 9 you don't need to have transfusions.
Best wishes
Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth:
Thank You for your information. You put my mind at ease. It was just that I did not have any reduction in Platelets until now.
That would be since 1998, and then on Gleevec as of Oct. 2001. Its so nice to hear about people doing well. Best Wishes to you too.

Suzzie

Hi Suzzie
Suzzie if your Hem Doc does not worry nor should you, Seriously I mean I have very low platelets, (118 would be wonderful if I could reach that level) My doc does not take me off meds unless I am having some bad reaction. I think most doc's will take a look at you count around 20K, over here in the med day unit, they have a set rate, if your down below 10K you get some platelets, unless there is some reason to give them to you at a higher level, mine is 20K and I receive.
you can view my platelet count and what I receive on my diary, at the bottom of the page..
Be safe and have a great day
