Liquid intake - plain water

I note several posts on the importance of drinking lots of plain water. I know I don't drink enough, but I hate plain water and have great difficulty in taking it in quantity. I can't be the only one.

Does it really matter if I drink, say, apple juice, tea, milk, or anything, so long as I get sufficient fluid intake?

John

Hi John,

From experience I can tell you no matter how hard it is...drink the water...
I started off drinking water and found it AWFUL, in fact the high water consumption
made me nauseous to begin with (3 litres a day) and it made me go ALL the time..

However now a few weeks into it I am managing much better with the water (in fact I feel thirsty if I do not drink enough) and I do not go any more than normal.

The Glivec along with any other tablets you take can build up in the body and the clear plain water is the best for the body (according to the Dr)

Kind Regards

hi Bil and John,
i do agree that it is quite hard to get into the habit of drinking plain water...... as opposed to all other liguids like juice tea coffee etc.
BUT it can be done... as Bil has indicated... and it IS REALLY important if you are to keep side effects to a minimum.
i always mix my water with 1/2 teaspoon of VitC powder which makes it taste a little better for me. i also drink naturally carbonated water such as Badoit or Vichy or Pellagrino as i like that sort of salty taste.

John,
i think if you can persevere (as Bil has done) you will find that things will improve.
we often suffer symptoms of dehydration but mix them up with feelings of hunger or the need for a 'lift' of some sort.

John,

Plenty of liquid is definitely desirable. Water is best as obviously it has no toxins or anything to adversely affect liver, etc. However, if you really cannot get accustomed to that, I believe apple juice is a suitable alternative. It's not that other liquids are bad, it's just that liquids like tea and coffee contain caffeine and large quantities of caffeine aren't good. Having said that I personally do include tea and apple juice in my list of liquids to ensure some variety.

Thanks folks.
Point taken that plain water is best, although I guess when the water hits the stomach, it mixes with everything else in there anyway. Don't drink coffee and tea only if it's there. I have decided to start with very lightly flavoured water and try to progress to the real thing, but increase the volume.

Thanks.

John
