Mouth Ulcers

Hi everyone, I need some information please if anyone can help me. Becky has been on Glivec now for 5 weeks and she is okay, but she has developed a mouth ulcer. I went to the doctor to see if he could give me a prescription for something and the receptionist said that I should get in touch with my consultant as there could be something wrong with her white blood count. I could only go after work to the doctors and I have emailed her consultant about this, do you think I should take her to see her tomorrow for a blood test? I do not know what to do, I don`t think its life threatening but I don`t want to sit around doing nothing if its going to cause her bad problems. Thanks Dawn xxx

mouth ulcers can be a sign of a low immune response. one way of helping ofset this is by encouraging Becky to supplement her diet with vitamins and minerals. Vit C is good and beta carotine too, for clearing up skin infections and ulcers etc.
i am sure Becky will be fine but you should contact your consultant (rather than your inexperienced GP)and ask for his/her advice. Becky should be having blood tests quite often at this stage... so maybe you could bring this forward a little? just to set your mind at rest.
do remember also that it is early days and Becky will need time to recover her health.

Hi Sandy, thank you for that. I have contacted Beckys consultant and they are going to send a prescription through the post for something. I really get panicky about these things. Thanks for putting my mind at rest. Love Dawn xxx
