Travel Insurance 2008

Hello everyone, and a Happy and Healthy New Year to all...

I know we have discussed this topic before but obtaining travel insurance still seems to be a bit of a nightmare. I was wondering whether anyone has found any reasonably priced quotes recently?

Regards, Janet

Janet & others,

I have been using J.D.Consultants, 44, High Street, Farnborough, Kent, for the past 3 years. Telephone 01689 859102, 850333, 856551, 851145, or 856984. I have just received my renewal for this year - £77.80 for myself and the family European multi trip cover. Max cover 31 days for any single trip.

The company is the Fortis Insurance Company. You either sign a health declaration, or more likely go through Fortis Health Line number 0845 122 3297.

Hope this is of help. I am still in chronic phase 600 mg Glivec and PCR is 01.09. The general rule for me is that I have not had any other treatment out of the ordinary, so have no problem getting my CML covered. I think single trip cover is about 25.00.

Best Wishes,

Phil.

Aged 68 with CML, I spent about 18 months trying to get travel insurance at a reasonable price. I eventually changed my home insurance to Norwich Union and they included worldwide, multi trip cover. This specifically INCLUDES any CML related problems. Effectively this means that the travel insurance costs about £130 and this covers myself and my wife.

I was dreading the renewal last week of our policy but it proved to be easiy.

I have just renewed an annual policy with worlwide cover, including USA, with Age Concern (underwritten by Fortis) for myself and Val. You do not have to be aged to use this insurance!

The CML health disclosure questions have changed since last year (possibly because of a change of underwriter.

In case it helps: telephone 0845 128 8008 (8.00am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am to 5.00pm on Saturday). They now do the medical screening on the same phone line, so there is no need for a separate phone call. My tip is that they find it difficult to locate CML in their computer system. So tell them it is under "Myeloid Leukaemia, Chronic"! It will save a few minutes of searching at their end.

Regards

David

Dear Phil, John and David

Thanks very much for your very helpful advice. Following a call this evening to Age Concern, we now have a family annual world-wide [incl Canada and the USA] travel insurance covering CML at a reasonable price. It was also a pleasure to answer sensible questions about medication and hospital visits!

So thank you very much, and many happy, healthy and exciting holidays to you all!

Regards, Janet
